A Study on Mutual Subspace Method Applied in Gait Recognition

Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) We previously proposed a gait-based person recognition method using a mutual subspace method (MSM), with an assumption that speed information does not have to be regarded as critical information to gait recognition.
Based on this assumption, we got an idea to apply MSM to gait recognition, which was a method of image set-based matching approaches, and we showed the effectiveness of the proposed idea with publicly available gait databases. The proposed idea can be expected to have high practicality thanks to the simplicity of MSM, but we did not show why MSM worked well on gait recognition. In this paper we carry out experimental analysis to show how MSM processes and encodes gait images.
