(事前公開アブストラクト) This study addressed the mechanism of children's defaulting errors about tensed verbs in Japanese by testing the hypothesis that children sometimes produce defaulting errors in different directions depending on the relative strengths of those forms in the input.
22 young children were tested on their ability to provide past and non-past tensed form for 20 verbs, 10 of which were biased toward past form and another 10 toward nonpast form in terms of input frequency. Mixed effect models revealed that the likelihood of children's errors for a given verb is related to the proportion of past vs non-past forms of that verb in the input. This pattern supports our prediction based on the frequency-sensitive learning. |
