Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) Accuracy of sedimentation velocities obtained for micron-sized particles was greatly improved by a new method called Frequency-Domain Dynamic ultraSound Scattering (FD-DSS) technique. With an aid of the position sensitivity by a phase analysis, the particle-size distribution was also examined. It was found that the effect of size distribution was noticeable even for standard monodisperse particles with CV = 0.05 where CV is the coefficient of variation defined by the standard deviation normalized by the average particle diameter. Furthermore, the volume-fraction dependence of the sedimentation velocity was studied in order to establish the particle-sizing method by FD-DSS.
