Effects of stimulus size, position, and speed on the vection induced by the optic flow projected on a floor
Yasuaki Tamada (Univ. of Kitakyushu), Takeharu Seno (Kyushu Univ.) HIP2015-70
Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) This is an introduction of our previous article (Tamada & Seno, in press, Aerospace Medicine and Human Performance). Although the induction of vection (the illusory self-motion perception) has been studied in the past half century, the effect of ground surface is not well known. We measured the vection duration, latency, and subjective strength as a function of size, position, and speed of the optic flow projected on a floor. As stimulus size and speed increased, stronger vection was induced. When the stimulus occupied a more distance visual-field, vection was more effectively induced than when the nearer part was occupied. Our results suggest that stimuli on the ground surface can induce substantial vection and vection strength can be modified by stimulus properties of ground surfaces.
