Dynamic AM/AM and AM/PM control of Doherty amplifier using tanh-shaped function

(in English) Power amplifiers for communication systems require increasingly high efficiency at large back-off from saturated output power. The Doherty amplifier is one promising solution to solve this problem, however the linearity of the Doherty amplifier is deteriorated compared to class-AB amplifiers. In this work, a low distortion Doherty amplifier with dynamic AM/AM and AM/PM control is proposed, using a tanh function to control the gate bias and λ/4 lines with changing input signal. Simulations show that linearity of the amplifier with tanh-shaped dynamic AM/AM and AM/PM control is improved compared to no control, without significantly affecting the efficiency. Experimental results of the amplifier with tanh-shaped dynamic AM/AM control also show that ACPR of the amplifier is improved by 3dB compared to no control.
