Considerations for New Entries of OFDM with 256- and 1024-QAM in Mobile Systems

(in English) This paper presents the transmission performance of OFDM using a higher order modulation scheme such as 256- and 1024-QAM by link-level simulations, and discuss their application to mobile systems from the link adaptation perspective. BER and throughput performance are highlighted as parameters of coding rates for 256- and 1024-QAM. Using these results, we clarify the switching point on the modulation and coding scheme for channel quality, such as Eb/No. This will be useful for designing a channel quality indicator table including 256- and 1024-QAM and provide an effective way to help resource management in mobile systems such as small cells.
