| (in English) | Current research on the biological effects of ultrasound irradiation generally includes an exposure system where the cell culture dish is placed directly on top of the transducer. In this case, a standing wave appears inside of the dish due to the various reflec-tions, and the ultrasound field inside of the dish becomes complicated. However, hydrophone measurements of the ultrasound field in small chamber is difficult and not enough research has been done. Thus we visualized the ultrasound field inside of a small chamber using very simple optical method, which we call the image subtraction Schlieren technique. The experimental results showed that the generation of standing waves increases pressure amplitude by 2.0 fold at the antinodes and decreases by 0.4 times at the nodes. In another experiment, we visualized the ultrasound field in chambers with different width and showed that the dis-turbance of the standing wave by may result in the difference in the sonochemical effect on the cells. | |
