[Encouragement Talk] Caching Algorithm using Information of Rare Pieces for BitTorrent

(in English) BitTorrent produces the redundant traffic between ASes, which has impact on the transit cost because BitTorrent constructs an overlay network without considering the structure of the underlay network. Although one of the ways for eliminating the redundant traffic is to utilize in-network cache in programmable nodes, the challenge is to retain high cache hit ratio. LRU is widely used for cache replacement algorithm in practice, but LRU utilizes temporal locality. Therefore, LRU leads to sub-optimal performance in the context of BitTorrent where Rarest First Algorithm is used. We propose two steps for resolving this issue: (1)infer the pieces of files to be exchanged in near future and (2)caching algorithm for BitTorrent, and in the previous paper we reported the evaluation in (1). In this paper, we report the evaluation in (2) especially. To be concrete, our proposed caching method puts high priority in caching rare pieces after inferring them using the algorithm developed in (1). By simulation, we show that the less the size of cache is, the more effective our proposed caching algorithm is compared to LRU.
