Evaluation of using CPU Capping Function of Virtual Machine to Improve SLA in Auto-scaling

(in English) Recently many cloud service providers offer an auto-scaling feature that can increase or decrease the number of virtual machines as workload changes. To utilize the feature, users have to define rules of changing the number of virtual machines (VMs) in advance, but it is difficult to make rules that add adequate number of VMs for increased load without performance degradation. In this study, we focus on CPU capping function that is one of resource management functions of virtualization, and propose an auto-scaling approach that rapidly adds CPU resources by changing CPU capping setting of virtual machines and estimates required number of virtual machines using observed value of current workload. We confirm that our approach recovery from performance degradation in seconds and estimate required number of virtual machines to set the CPU usage into specific value.
