Proposal of a Design Framework for Gaming Instructional Materials to Promote Utilization of Statistical Ways of Viewing and Thinking
Anna Kokubo, Toshiki Matsuda (Tokyo Tech) ET2014-106
Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) Basic statistics are required to be learned both in mathematics at lower secondary school level and upper secondary school level. This means that statistical education becomes important for all. Learning outcomes of statistical education are also required to be utilized in other subject areas, and then students need to learn statistical analysis as a problem-solving tool. For this end, students need to acquire ability to understand statistical data critically while performing analysis by themselves. In this study, I developed a design framework for gaming instructional materials to promote utilization of statistical ways of viewing and thinking based on the framework of informatics education and mathematics education while considering the relation between statistical education and informatics education. In addition, after conducting a trial lesson, I improved the design framework and developed a new gaming instructional material.
