Digital Watermark for Audio Signals Based on Octave Similarity Considering Both the Amplitude and the Phase

(in English) For audio digital watermarking, a method based on octave similarity in one of powerful methods. This method utilizes human auditory characteristics that we recognize two notes, which are an octave apart, as the same kinds. The artifact caused by this watermarking method is less perceivable because of this octave similarity. This method is realized by two ways, one is modulating the amplitude and the other is shifting the phase of the frequency spectrum of the audio signals. The former is more robust to attack, while the artifact is sometimes perceivable. On the other hand, the latter is less robust to attack, while the artifact is usually less perceivable. However, for some kinds of music, the artifact is more perceivable when the phase shifting is applied. In this paper, a new method of watermarking is proposed considering both of the amplitude modification and the phase shift. This method automatically classifies the audio signals into two groups; one is to be embedded into the amplitude and the other into the phase. Changing the way of embedding, the proposed method can realize less perceivable artifact while the robustness is high enough. The proposed method is verified to be effective by applying this method to various types of music.
