OFDM transmission schemes are adopted for the integrated services digital broadcasting-terrestrial (ISDB-T) and the downlink of LTE. Their wireless channels are likely to be frequency selective fading in which absolute values of many propagation paths are negligible, that is sparse channels. In addition, when the receiver moves rapidly, the channel varies fast due to the Doppler effect and the accuracy of channel estimation deteriorates significantly. In order to alleviate its deterioration, the iterative channel estimation scheme with the tap selection and the LMS algorithm exploiting the log-likelihood ratio (LLR) of the coded bits from the decoder has been studied. For further improvement of the channel esimation accuracy, this report investigates a channel estimaion scheme employing the optimization method with $ell_1$ norm regularization, called a Fast Iterative Shrinkage-Thresholding Algorithm (FISTA), and proposes the iterative reception for OFDM systems employing such a channel estimation scheme. For both the initial channel estimation using scattered-pilots (SPs) of several symbols and the soft decision directed channel estimaion (SDCE) using replicas of transmitted signals, the proposed method to apply FISTA can estimate the sparse channel more precisely than the least squares method. For evaluating the performance of the proposed method, computer simulations following ISDB-T with SP-OFDM are conducted. It is shown that the proposed method can estimate the sparse channel impulse response much more accurately than the conventional method. |
