In order to tackle rapidly increasing traffic, 5th generation (5G) radio access network in mobile communications introduces Massive MIMO technology into small cells using higher frequency bands, and super high bit rate transmission realizing more than 10 Gbps data rate has been investigated. In Massive MIMO, from the point of view of realization, hybrid beamforming (BF) that combines analog BF with digital precoding has been proposed, and it has been verified that a throughput of more than 20 Gbps can be achieved by using 400 MHz bandwidth in the 20 GHz band and employing full-array type analog BF with all the antenna elements. In this report, we employ a sub-array type configuration using subsets of the antenna elements in our proposed joint analog BF and channel state information (CSI)-based precoding (FBCP), and present a beam search algorithm for such a configuration. Performances comparison between the full-array type and the sub-array type are made by link level simulations using 256-element uniform planar array. Furthermore, for the more realistic evaluation, some performances are shown by taking into account a phase error in both the variable phase shifter of the analog BF and the 90 degrees phase shifter of the quadrature modulator as hardware impairment. |
