Proposal of coexistence scheme for wireless LAN and multiple wireless PANs

(in English) To operate IEEE 802.11g based wireless LANs (WLANs) and IEEE 802.15.4 based wireless personal area networks (WPANs) in the 2.4 GHz band, we have proposed the coexistence scheme called hybrid station aided coexistence (HYSAC). When WPANs are applied to a health monitoring system with vital sensors, many WPANs may be used at the same location and may join and leave the WLAN cell following movements of persons. However, the WLAN and WPAN throughput performances of the conventional scheme deteriorate in the above situation. To solve this problem, this paper proposes two schemes. The first new scheme is a synchronization scheme for multiple WPANs to enable the coexistence for a WLAN and many WPANs. The second one is a reliable coexistence scheme which exclusively assigns wireless resources to WPANs when WPANs join or leave the WLAN cell. Simulation results show that the proposed scheme improves the throughput performances of a WLAN and WPANs in the coexistence system.
