Baseband Signal Reproduction Using Real-Zero for Wireless Communications

(in English) The advanced Si-CMOS IC technology can combine baseband digital circuits and RF analog circuits together, and can implement the combined circuits on a single chip. However, the integrated circuits have major problems such as lower voltage of the analog circuits, lower SNR, gain reduction, and non-uniform characteristics of circuit elements. To cope with these problems, this report proposes a new analog-to-digital conversion scheme based on time digital conversion (TDC). The proposed scheme subtracts a cosine wave considered a reference signal from a bandpass signal, and measures timing when the reference signal coincides with the bandpass signal. Such timing is called real zeros or zero cross. Using the real zeros, the proposed scheme estimates sampled baseband signals by a constrained least squares algorithm.
In addition, for reducing the computational complexity to deal with a long bandpass signal sequence, another scheme divides the long bandpass signal sequence into short sequences, and applies the above-mentioned estimation algorithm into such short sequences.
Computer simulations with frequency of the reference signal and time resolution of real zeros being parameters are conducted in order to quantitatively evaluate accuracy of the signal reproduction.
