In this paper, we propose a segmentation method of bile duct (BD) from abdominal CT volumes. In order to classify voxels into BD or its surrounding tissues, our method utilizes statistical values of the intensity as feature values in local regions which have various sizes. We utilize a Suppot Vector Machine (SVM) as classifiers.
For sufficient extraction of distal parts of intrahepatic BDs and stenosed merging sections of BD, we construct two classifiers being used BD region segmentation: Classifier 1 determines whether an input voxel belongs to segmental BDs or not. Classifier 2 determines whether an input voxel belongs to subsegmental BDs or not. We roughly extract the BD by two classifiers. Finally, we obtain the BD region as sufficient extraction of distal parts of intrahepatic BDs with likelihood estimation of BD by using Classifier 2.
Our method requires only one point as manual operation before the segmentation.
In the experiment using 22 cases of CT volumes, our method was able to obtain good segmentations of the BD regions. An average of Jaccard Index was 62.2%. Average segmentation rate of branches of segment and subsegment BDs were 98.9% and 70.0%, respectively. |
