Evaluation of A Delay Spike Reduction Method on Real Mobile Networks
Koichi Nihei, Kozo Satoda (NEC) CQ2014-115
Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) Since the transmission speed of mobile networks has accelerated and the function and performance of mobile terminals have improved, a lot of Voice over IP (VoIP) and video conference services are provided on mobile networks. Voice quality degradation due to delay spikes that are sudden large increases in the packet delay is a key issue for VoIP on mobile networks. To resolve this issue, the authors have proposed a delay spike reduction method that controls size and interval of voice packets on the basis of radio quality and have confirmed the reduction of delay spikes by simulations. This paper evaluates the method on real mobile networks and shows effectiveness of the method.
