Deformation and correction of 2D pathology images of brain via macro images

(in English) Although, MRI is mainly used for the diagnosis of brain tumor, it's difficult to identify infiltration area of tumor from MRI. For analyzing relationship between cellular characteristics and MR signal, it is needed to compare the identical area of pathological and MR images. Since a brain specimen is large, it needs to be divided into several blocks first so that thin slices of each block are imaged by a microscope. Those obtained pathological images then must be merged properly. In this paper, we present a processing flow to register pathological images via optical macro images. In the registration, correspondence between a large macro image before division and several macro images after division is used for merge of pathological images. We performed an experiment using a pig brain and confirmed that the professing flow worked well to successfully obtain merged pathological images.
