Evaluation of DTN Transport Mechanism using UDP for Opportunistic Communication
Shunichi Kinoshita, Hirofumi Ueda (NEC) NS2014-198
Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) DTN (Delay/Disruption Tolerant Networking) is a major technology to realize an opportunistic communication. In DTN, each terminal stores the data temporarily and forwards it to its next hop. DTN is implemented as an upper layer of the transport layer, and TCP is often used as the transport layer in general. In opportunistic communication, it should be considered that the communication quality is unstable and the communication time is limited. Hence, the transport layer protocol should be selected taking account of such features of opportunistic communication. In this work, we compared the performance of DTN with TCP and DTN with UDP in the opportunistic communication environment. As a result, DTN with UDP can share around 10 times the number of contents than that of DTN with TCP each time nodes pass each other.
