We are developing fan-in/fan-out(FI/FO) devices to connect multi core fiber(MCF) to single mode fibers using free space optics. They have various advantages for example, applicability to MCF’s with various core pitches and various number of cores, low insertion loss and possible application to high input powers without glue in the optical path. But there is fear that the size will be larger than that of physical contact type FI/FO devices.
In this paper, we show a study of miniaturization of FI/FO devices using free space optics by using comparable optics of physical contact type FI/FO devices. |
