[Invited Lecture] Experimental Study on combining algorithm in Adaptive Antenna for ISDB-T Automobile Reception

(in English) In ISDB-T (Terrestrial digital TV broadcasting in Japan), Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) is adopted as a modulation scheme. We proposed an automobile reception system using adaptive array antenna technology to reduce the effect of fading. However, the reception performance deteriorates due to influence of the Doppler shift which occurs with moving of the vehicle. In many cases, four antennas are mounted on a vehicle (Front:2 antennas, Rear:2 antennas), the directivity of those antennas are directed to front and rear of the vehicle, respectively. Therefore the Doppler frequency is different between front side and rear side of the vehicle, and the difference between the frequencies is increased as the speed becomes high-speed. For overcoming this problem, we proposed a system which combines independently the signals at 2 antennas(Front) and 2 antennas(Rear). From an experimental result, it is proved that the BER performance of the proposed system is better compared with ordinary systems.
