[Poster Presentation] Do 10-and 14-month-olds use facial expressions as a basis to predict the expresser's cooperative behavior?
Toshinori Kaneshige, Etsuko Haryu (Univ. of Tokyo) HCS2014-96
Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) Adults use facial expressions to decide whether the expresser is helpful not. That is, we are likely to regard a person with a happy expression as cooperative, and a person with an angry expression as non-cooperative. The present study investigated whether 10- and 14-month-olds use facial expressions to predict the expresser’s helping or hindering behavior. The results indicate that both 10- and 14-month-olds predict that a person with an angry expression will not help others, whereas they do not make a clear prediction whether a person with a happy expression will help others or not.
