In dynamic spectrum access (DSA) and the scenario with dynamic primary user (PU), spectrum sensing with reasonably low cost is very challenging due to the required detection accuracy and quickness which is used to detect the unused spectrum (White Space : WS) owned by PU. One possible approach to achieve the requirements is to use statistics regarding PU spectrum utilization in spectrum sensing. For this issue, it is necessary to develop a system for obtaining the statistical information, such as Duty Cycle (DC). In our previous work, DC estimation based on Welch FFT has been investigated. The DC estimation method requires the optimum segment size selection method for both estimation accuracy because there is a trade-off relationship between DC estimation accuracy and WS estimation accuracy with regard to the segment size of Welch FFT. In this paper, we show the optimum segment size depends on the signal-to-noise power ratio in frequency domain (SNRfreq). After that, in the environment where SNRfreq varies due to fading etc., we propose a segment size selection method which can adapt to the fluctuation of SNRfreq. In numerical simulation, we show that our proposed method achieve high WS estimation accuracy while any DC estimation accuracy. |
