Electro-Optic Bragg Deflection Modulator Using MgO(8mol%) Doped LiTaO3Domain-InvertedStructures

(in English) MgO doped LiTaO3 crystal has not only good electro-optic properties but also higher resistance to photorefractive damage and wider transmission band for short wavelength light than LiNbO3. We demonstrated electro-optic Bragg deflection type modulator using periodically poled MgO(8mol%) doped LiTaO3 for the first time. We found that the relaxation phenomena hardly occurred within ten milliseconds in the modulator using MgO doped LiTaO3 although it occurred within a few hundred microseconds in the modulator using MgO doped LiNbO3. We accomplished maximum diffraction efficiency as high as 97%, which was in good agreement with the theoretical value of 100%.
