Performance Evaluation of Multi-Level Modulation and Local Frequency Offset Spatial Diversity Reception in Implant Communications

(in English) One of promising applications for implant communications is wireless capsule endoscope, which can realize a high quality of medical and healthcare services.
However, the regulation of medical implant communication service (MICS) band often employed by the wireless capsule endoscope prevents reliable and high-speed transmission due to its narrowband limitation.
Furthermore, large path loss in an implant communication link due to shadowing by the human body organs leads to undesired performance degradation, so the improvement of communication performances by spatial diversity reception is effective.
For these reasons, we introduce several multilevel modulation schemes (such as differential 16, 32 and 64 star QAMs) with local frequency offset diversity reception into the implant communications to improve the communication reliability and data rate without any frequency bandwidth extension.
In this paper, we evaluate the throughput performances over communication distances for the proposed multilevel modulation with four receive diversity branches by computer simulations based on propagation characteristics of implant wireless signals.
