Performance Evaluation on Transmit-Receive Diversity for Implant UWB-IR Communications
Yuto Shimizu, Daisuke Anzai, Jianqing Wang (NIT) MICT2014-52
Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) Ultra wideband impulse radio (UWB-IR) technology is a potential candidate in implant body area net-works (BAN), where a wireless communication link should be established between inside and outside of a human body. The UWB-IR technology can accomplish low power consumption and high data rate with an extremely short pulse. However, due to the use of high frequencies, the UWB-IR signals suffer from large attenuation in the implant
communication, which makes it difficult to achieve reliable communication. Therefore, in this paper, we propose to combine a transmit polarization diversity and a spatial receive diversity for the implant UWB-IR communication, and then evaluate and discuss the communication performance improvement of the transmit-receive diversity system in the implant BAN environment through computer simulations. The results suggest the possibility of the transmit-receive diversity system for realizing a high-speed implant UWB-IR communication with a throughput of 40 Mbps.
