Effects of Delay Variations in TCP/AQM Using Disturbance Observer

(in English) Recently, the amount of data traffic over the network is rapidly increasing with the spread of smartphones and tablets. Accordingly, congestion in the network is pointed out that will become more serious in the concentrator devices such as routers and switches. Transmission control protocol (TCP) which is a typical Internet Protocol has a congestion control mechanism. TCP detects time-out and/or packet losses and adjusts the window size. However, queue overflow, i.e., drop tail, causes global synchronization which decreases average throughput, and unfairness between bursty traffic and other traffic. Hence, active queue management (AQM) which discards packets actively in the concentrator devices has been proposed. Nowadays, in order to design more efficient congestion control, AQM schemes based on control theory have been actively studied. In particular, the congestion controller using a disturbance observer can compensate the variation of network parameters such as the number of TCP connections and the inflow of non-TCP flows, and has high robustness. This report investigates the effects of the variation of end-to-end delay when AQM scheme with the disturbance observer is utilized.
