A Prototype of Non-Grounded Force Feedback Device by Controlling Wind Direction

(in English) In recent years, non-grounded force feedback devices, which are unconstrainted from the ground and a human body, have been developed. A path navigation for visually impaired is considered as an application of such haptic devices. It is necessary to be a wearable device, to provide a sustained force to the specified direction, regardless of the orientation of the device itself. In this study, with the aim of developing a haptic device which satisfies the three aforementioned requirements, we propose a non-grounded force feedback method by using wind pressure. In this method, we attach two fans, each mounted on a 2-axis gimbal, at the two end of the grip. A sustained force is displayed by wind pressure produced by the two fans synchronously oriented to the same direction.
