Recent studies suggest that the uses of high loss dielectric waveguides in the Radial Line Slot Antenna (RLSA) might be indispensable to improve other characteristics such as antenna weight and structural stability. This paper synthesizes a slot array design to cope with such lossy property of the radial waveguides. As a result, a downward tapering aperture illumination is realized, and it partly suppresses the losses due to the dielectric waveguides. A 32GHz RLSA with a high gain of 44.6dBi is presented to demonstrate the improvement in case of lossy waveguide using new slot design; in comparison with the conventional design, about 0.5dB gain enhancement was achieved. |
