The IEEE802.11ac, current wireless local area network (WLAN) standard, adopts the MU-MIMO transmissions and the packet aggregation technique to achieve high system performance. Then, the packet aggregation scheme for MU-MIMO transmissions is investigated to improve channel usage efficiency. In the conventional packet aggregation scheme, the AP uniforms the data size included in the wireless frames on all the spatial streams to reduce the space channel time, which is a time duration where some of spatial streams carry no data whereas the others do. Under WLANs with multi-rate transmissions, however, the AP may not uniform the transmission times of wireless frames during MU-MIMO transmissions, and then the channel usage efficiency degrades. In addition, to achieve higher efficient transmission, the AP needs to adopt the A-MSDU method when aggregating the packets, and in this case, the A-MSDU frame error rate should be kept to be small. In this paper, we propose the high efficient packet aggregation scheme considering the multi-rate transmissions to reduce the space channel time. And also, the proposed scheme restricts the number of packets aggregated in A-MSDU frame to keep low frame error rate. The results of computer simulations demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed scheme in WLAN systems with multi-rate transmissions. |
