Metal welding of dissimilar metals and low-resistance metals are difficult by the resistance welding. Thus, ultrasonic metal welding has emerged as a strong candidate for effective welding of dissimilar metals and low-resistance metals. We have proposed the use of a planar vibration locus. We developed a method to generate vibration with a planar locus for metal welding; in the method, a one-dimensional ultrasonic longitudinal-torsional vibration source is driven at two separate frequencies simultaneously. In experiments, a copper plate and an aluminum plate were used as welding targets. As a result, the method of ultrasonic welding using planar vibration locus obtained high weld strength and weld area than welding using linear vibration locus. |
