| (in English) | At the very begging time of the so-called Japan’s lost two decades plus, the author launched his own small business, a fabless semiconductor startup, which was successfully grown and went public a decade ago, and since then he has been investing and nurturing new startups. Based on these experiences, he discusses the essential reasons why Japan spent so long time losing its position in the semiconductor and electronics industries. The causes for lack of social and cultural structures to support challenges in small cruisers, i.e. startups rather than cozy big sea-liners, i.e. traditional large firms, degrading the competence in creating disruptive innovations, are discussed. As a world leading country for its low birth and aging population burdens, Japan’s growing great opportunities are also discussed. | |
