Experimental study on the behaviors of arc-root by using separate mesh electrodes

(in English) In this paper an experimental configuration was established to investigate the behaviors of arc-root on the surface of a copper electrode. The experimental setting includes a rectangle case made of DMC and a pair of parallel electrodes, one of the electrodes was separated into 10 sections by 9 air gaps. With optical imaging through a high-speed CCD camera, arc motion between the electrodes was observed and, by measuring current flow through 10 sections respectively, the position, size, moving speed and current density of arc-root can be evaluated. By changing current and structural parameters of the experimental setting, some factors those influents behaviors of arc-root was discussed, such as width of the electrode, distance between the electrodes, direction of the current flow.
