Propagation Analysis of Orthogonal Circularly Polarized MIMO in Street Cell Model

(in English) Circular polarization is one of the polarization methods of radio waves that rotate the polarized wave proceeding with time. The circular polarization can be applied to MIMO transmission by right-handed circularly polarized wave and left-handed circularly polarized wave concurrently because these two waves keep orthogonally with each other. Therefore, circularly polarized MIMO can transmit independent information data at the same frequency. Further, circularly polarized wave is hardly affected by a change in communication environment due to posture variation between transmitter and receiver. This is also an advantage point of circular polarization. Therefore, the MIMO transmission composed of circularly polarized antenna would be an attractive transmission technique for broadband land mobile communications in street cell. In this study, analytical evaluations on propagation characteristics of circularly polarized MIMO transmission method are conducted by assuming the street cell model which consists of a direct wave and reflected waves. In the street cell model, single reflected path from the road surface, single and double reflected paths from the buildings surrounding the road, are assumed. In the analytical evaluations, distributions of the condition number which indicates the channel separation properties of MIMO transmission are presented by considering the polarization conversion due to the difference in transmit and receive antenna height and reflection coefficient of the concrete.
