Hardware Oriented Speed Traffic-Sign Detection Algorithm for Robust Sign Distortion and Illumination Conditions

(in English) In this paper, we propose a hardware-oriented robust speed traffic-sign recognition algorithm which can process real-time for Advanced Driving Assistant System (ADAS). The proposed algorithm performs the sign detection using a binary image which is converted from a grayscale input image, and enables real-time speed sign detection with an FPGA implementation by using run lengths of pixel within a candidate region and black and white pixel-histograms in the region, are easily calculated by simple arithmetic and logical operations; the length and histogram computations. From the experimental results, the proposed algorithm achieves the recognition accuracy up to more than a 99 % at daytimes and up to a 94.2 % in nights including rainy night situations.
