[Poster Presentation] Authorization-based Flexible Network Service for Resilient Wi-Fi Roaming Systems

(in English) The poster will illustrate recent research by eduroam JP on system configuration on a flexible network service based on authorization.
(a) “DEAS” in eduroam JP:
"Eduroam JP" has grown as a community of many institutions. This growth is assisted by a distinguishing feature of eduroam JP, the federated Delegate Authentication System “DEAS”, which reduces the entire cost for building and operation eduroam service at participating institution by providing some centralized authentication servers. The system has been proved to be quite effective in deploying eduroam in small institutions.
(b) Policy-based authorization for WLAN roaming systems:
Basic access policy to restrict access to local resources can be implemented by use of visitors access network described above. More flexible access control is possible using users’ attributes to forbid the access to some Internet sites upon the host and home institutions’ network use policy. The attribute information such as affiliation and position can be supplied through response to authentication inquiry for roaming.
(c) Access and priority control system in time of disaster:
Mobile devices with wireless LAN function are useful for communication and information gathering at stations and refuges in case of emergency such as disaster, so each institution is expected to temporarily open its access points (APs) for all users in such cases. However, for security, each institution needs to properly control their accesses according users. In addition, since a lot of people access through an AP at refuges, it is important to prioritize significant data packets. We propose a flexible access and priority control system in time of disaster as an application of "DEAS" technology.
