[Poster Presentation] Prediction of Next ON/OFF State of Primary System by N-order Markov Chain

(in English) In this study, we propose a method that predicts the next ON/OFF state of a primary system (PS) by Nth-order Markov chain with a maximum likelihood estimation method in order to reduce the number of spectrum sensing. Cognitive radio (CR) needs to sense the surrounding wireless environment. Because spectrum sensing consumes power, we consider reducing the times of the spectrum sensing by the prediction of the state sequence. A secondary system (SS) detects a white space (WS) where the PS does not use the channel. The SS observes the surrounding wireless environment by using an energy detection and garners the state sequence. Then, the SS analyzes the accumulated data and predicts the next ON/OFF states. We model PS as from two-states to 2^N states with the maximum likelihood estimation method and the SS can obtain reliable predictions without the spectrum sensing. The larger N is, the more SS can obtain reliable predictions. Because, the SS can decrease the times of spectrum sensing, as a result, the proposed method can reduce power consumption due to the sensing and the result transmission maintaining the required accuracy. Therefore, it is important that we know the state sequence length for the reliable predictions. In this paper, we show the correct prediction probability in each Nth-order Markov chain and evaluate the times of spectrum sensing by computer simulation.
