As a result of the great east Japan earthquake in March 2011, the importance of secure satellite communication such as very small aperture terminal (VSAT) systems has been recognized. In this work, satellite-terrestrial multi-mode VSAT has been developed by using software defined radio (SDR) technology in order to satisfy the various demands for urgent life line recovery. In the event of disaster, evacuated people can use the developed multi-mode VSAT from their personal terminals, e.g., smart phones, via Wi-Fi for website access and internet protocol (IP) phone. |
