For image recognition and understanding, it is one of the fundamental problems to divide the image into
a target and a background. This problem is called the image binarization.
The threshold-based method is now used commonly in the image binarization.
Threshold-based method set threshold based on the valley appearing in histogram of the gray value and the derivative value in the image.
However, this method is ineffective against the image to meet the above condition.
It is necessary to analyze the geometric structure to execute the image binarization notwithstanding the conditions of the image.
The arbitrary curve generate a flow field based on the its gradient because of the differential geometric property.
Therefore, in this article, we define the slope lines that describe the structures of curve very well.
These lines emanate from the same maximum, and reach the same minimum.
We call this lines dipole flow.
As a result, we show that a set of the inflection point, or zero-crossing, is classified based on its morphology, and we introduce a binarization method based on this classification. |
