Estimating a State of TCP Throughput by using a Particle Filter

(in English) Our previous studies have shown that a state of TCP throughput fluctuation consists of a mixture of a stationary state and a non-stationary state.
Furthermore, we have demonstrated that a unit root test can test whether the throughput fluctuation is stationary or not.
However, the unit root test cannot estimate the mixture ratio of the two states. In this paper, we propose an estimation method of the mixture ratio based on a particle filter, which is a sequential Bayesian inference for a non-linear state model.
We show that our proposed method can estimate a conditional probability of the mixture ratio by generating random samples called particles according to a probability distribution of the result of a unit root test.
