Performance Evaluation of Flow QoS Guarantee Method Using Both TCP Congestion Control and MAC Frame Priority Control over Multirate WLAN Environment

(in English) In order to guarantee the flow QoS in Wireless LANs (WLANs), a flow QoS guarantee method using both TCP Congestion Control and MAC Frame Priority Control has been proposed.
This method tries to guarantee a bandwidth mainly by using QoS-TCP and assists the bandwidth guarantee by using MAC Frame Priority Control.
This paper uses TCP-AV as QoS-TCP and ROC as QoS-MAC.
The previous study evaluates the method in the single rate environment.
In this environment, each terminal uses only one transmission rate in the physical layer.
However, current wireless devices usually use multiple transmission rates.
This study calls this environment as a multirate environment.
Thus, it is unclear the performance of the flow QoS guarantee method in the multirate environment.
This paper evaluates the throughput performance of the flow QoS guarantee method in multirate environments.
Moreover, this paper shows that the flow QoS guarantee method can assure the target bandwidth in the multirate environment.
From simulation results, we found that the flow QoS guarantee method can guarantee the target rate and improve the total throughput in the multirate environment.
