| 抄録 | （和） | (事前公開アブストラクト) Many previous studies showed that lexically-specific conceptual information such as animacy and thematic information can influence the initial structural analysis (e.g., Trueswell et al., 1993; McRae et al., 1998). These results are often taken as evidence for constraint-based models (e.g., MacDonald et al., 1994). Importantly, these models predict gradiency in the influence of thematic information; the lower the thematic fit of an entity for a dominant analysis, the more activated or accessible an alternative analysis becomes (e.g., The suspect detained for questioning was later released). The current study examined how thematic fit interacts with structural bias in determining the initial analysis before encountering disambiguating information in processing the main clause/relative clause ambiguous structure. The results revealed that participants predicted a relative clause more when the initial noun was implausible agent for the main clause compared to when the noun was plausible agent. However, they did so less when the noun was inanimate and impossible agent than when it was plausible agent. The results suggest that thematic information does not always facilitate the competition of possible structural options but it can prevent comprehenders from accessing the correct structure due to the interaction with structural bias. |
