A sputter deposited CoPtCr-SiO2 perpendicular recording media with excellent orientation was successfully grown on a thin polymer film. Using advanced hard disk drive heads, the recording performance was investigated. These studies demonstrated an unprecedented broad-band SNR of 17 dB at 896 kbpi using a 77 nm wide TMR reader. This linear density coupled with an estimated written track width of 154 nm corresponds to a recording areal density of 148 Gbits/in2. |
