Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) Multi-core processor is widely used in recent CPUs. Even though it makes
an evolutional change to high performance computing, the sequential task
execution does not scale such multi-core architecture. The performance
of multi-core processors considerably depends on the task scheduling. In
order to efficiently use multi-core processors, we have to recognize two
main characteristics of the task scheduling problem: it is known as a
NP-hard problem, and it has numerous variety to deal with various
constraints of tasks.
In order to deal with such a task scheduling problem, we focus on the
Answer Set Programming (ASP) technique. ASP is based on the logic
programming and is a form of declarative programming oriented towards
NP-hard search problems. Since ASP also has rule-based description
style, we can implement individual codes for various task schedule
problems by adding part of codes to deal with the variety of the problem.
We experimentally implemented ASP codes in two case studies. First, we
incrementally evolved an ASP code in order to deal with various
extensions. We also implemented APS codes for a benchmark problem to
evaluate the scalability of ASP. The result demonstrates that the ASP
provides simple description for modeling problems and finding answers
and its independent rules help us evolve APS codes by adding relevant
rules to existing codes.
