An enhancement of Q-factor of LC resonators in millimeter wave and quasi-millimeter wave has been studied. Q-factor of LC resonator is degraded as functions of operating frequency since Q-factor of varactor behaves in proportion to inverse frequency and that of inductor degenerates in spite of in proportion to frequency, in such a high frequency region. In this work, Q-factor of varactors was improved by downsizing, and Q-factor of inductors was improved using striped shape. These improvements were confirmed by 20-GHz Voltage-controlled oscillators’ phase noise measurements. |
