A Study on Optical Transmission Bandwidth for Future Mobile Fronthaul Based on PON System

(in English) To reduce the optical transmission bandwidth in future mobile fronthaul (MFH), a C-RAN architecture which split the base station functions between wireless PHY layer and MAC layer has been proposed. The proposed architecture can greatly reduce the optical transmission bandwidth in MFH because it transmits MAC/PHY data instead of IQ sampling data. In this paper, we evaluate the MFH traffic when TDM-based PON system is applied to MFH in the proposed architecture, and indicate the improvement in optical bandwidth utilization efficiency compared to the mobile fronthaul of single star system.
