Junction between inorganic electrode and organic layer is an essential element of organic devices. However, its interface is difficult to control due to the largely different characteristics of organic and inorganic materials. This paper explores vapor deposition polymerization of a polymer film on an electrode modified with a self-assembled monolayer that has reactive terminal group, thereby forming stable interface tethered with covalent chemical bonds. It was observed that this method can lead to a marked improvement in adhesion strength of the polymer layer as well as to an enhancement of charge injection from the inorganic electrode to the polymer layer. |
