Evaluation of Diversity Effect of UWB BAN Coordinator in Indoor Environment

(in English) To collect vital data continuously using a wireless sensor network, a highly reliable wireless transmission is needed. Some diversity techniques such as RAKE diversity which combines the delayed multipath signals coherently, and antenna diversity which combines the independently received signals at different antennas, can be used in the coordinator to improve the performance. However, the performance gain depends on the radio propagation environment, thus they are not always effective. In this study, assuming a UWB BAN (ultra wideband body area network) system, the channel responses between the antennas of the coordinator attached on a waist belt and the the sensor nodes at various postions were measured. Then, the performance gains of RAKE reception and antenna diversity were compared by evaluating the outage probability. Furthermore, the dependency of the subject location in the room on the diversity gain was clarified.
