| (in English) | Control communications have a wide variety of applications including medical and healthcare systems, financial systems, disaster protection/recovery, building management, manufacturing systems, and robots/humanoid, and a key technology for large scale systems and systems of systems such as intelligent transportation systems and smart grid/community systems. This keynote address illustrates important and interesting features of the control communications, mainly from an academic viewpoint. At first, it is explained that a control system has to be regarded as a probabilistic system when imperfectness of control communications is considered. Then differences of the requirements for conventional and control communications is clarified. It is noteworthy that the performance of communication layer can/should be evaluated by using the quality of its upper layer, i.e., control layer, and cross-layer optimization of control and communication layers is possible. In addition, new measures/viewpoints of communication qualities are introduced. Information theory of freshness of information, necessity of communication protocols for control, and simultaneous control of multiple objects are briery outlined as examples of interesting topics on control communications. | |
