Real-Time ECG Signal Transmission by Human Body Communication and Common Mode Noise Reduction in ECG Signal

(in English) Real-time vital data monitoring systems for driver’s health condition have drawn considerable attention in intelligent transportation systems. In this study we developed a prototype of impulse radio (IR) based human body communication transceiver with an electrocardiogram (ECG) sensor. The transceiver has a common electrode both for human body communication and ECG sensing circuit. The experimental evaluation has shown a good bit error rate performance smaller than 0.001 in the physical layer. Furthermore, for realizing non-contact ECG sensing in actual application, we introduced the driven right leg (DRL) circuit into the prototype IR transceiver to reduce a common-mode noise at commercial power frequencies.
